Finally, some advertising

This morning I got an email from Justin, our CEO, asking me to work on a small advertising campaign. His initial idea, the use of fragmented movie quotes to highlight the importance of “getting the full story” has a lot of creative potential. I developed 3 mock up ads using his idea in about 15 minutes.

The ads turned out pretty cute if you ask me. Here is one of them.

Our issue here is that using these popular movie quotes is probably going to end up getting us sued, so Justin is having a lawyer look at it to see if the fragmentation of the quotes will prevent potential legal trouble.

Lead Gen

I have spent my first half of the day working with Hannah on lead generation, trying to find the emails of Chairs of OB Anesthesia and Chairs of OB. We’ve explored a couple different avenues in our search including LinkedIn, using directories for OB Anesthesia orgs. Unfortunately, most of the directories require you to be a member of the organization and many of the people we found on LinkedIn don’t have their emails on their account.

For spending 2+ hours on this, I’m pretty dissapointed in the amount of leads we have. Writing this blog is serving as a brief intermission/distraction from the endless clicking through hospital websites.

At least we get to enjoy the sound of drums, their origin is unknown.

Meeting the Cohort

Last Wednesday we had our first cohort meeting. It was great to meet the other interns and see some familiar faces. It sounds like some of the other interns are off to a slower start then we are, while others have really hit the ground running with their projects. Hannah and I hope to begin really getting into our website design, but first have to finish our planning.

Lost in the Wildnerness

It’s complicated technology. You’re going to spend some time lost in the wilderness this summer.

— Justin Adams, CEO AlertWatch

As my first day with AlertWatch comes to a close, my partner Hannah Nowaske and I have already found ourselves lost in the wilderness of medical jargon and new technology. Our two objectives for this summer internship are to create a new website for the company and to generate leads for Justin to follow up on at his leisure. We spent today looking over the websites of some of AlertWatch’s competitors, as well as some other medical sites, and began to brainstorm ideas for how to better highlight the solutions that AlertWatch brings to the table.

We have run into some trouble with creating a new website, as there is a lot of uncertainty among the team as to what needs to be on the website and where it should be. Hopefully in the coming week we can sit down with Justin and develop an outline to guide the creative process.

If timing permits, we have also discussed the possibility of an advertising campaign in order to build more awareness to the company among medical professionals, specifically anesthesiologist. The idea Justin had was to use popular movie quotes, and use a deletion strategy to demonstrate that when even just one word is removed, we don’t get the whole story. This would highlight the highly integrated platform that AlertWatch uses, collecting and displaying 200 pieces of data, telling the patients’ entire story.

I hope that we have time to dive into this ad campaign a little deeper in our eight weeks, as advertising is my primary area of interest. I look forward to working with Hannah in building this website and learning more about what other interns are doing with thei companies at the Wednesday meetings
